Best tasting pho in West Vancouver. Old school, yes, but when done well it hits the spot.

I may be riding against the tide here, but I have to say, Vina (the restaurants, not the food court ones), has always been an institution in the early days of Vancouver's ethic food scene. In the 80's their location on Denman has always been a busy spot with a loyal group of customers. In those days, to have any kind of ethnic restaurant in the West End or Downtown core in Vancouver can be considered Pioneers for their respective cuisines.
The Marine Drive location has always been our family go to location after their Denman Restaurant closed. Driving out is a treat, and to have the food that is familiar is always a plus!
Tonight we decided to have their combo plates and both of them were done to perfection!
Exceptionally, I would like to mention the Chicken, Lamb Brochettes were superb! Juicy and tender, full with the perfect marinade what is the signature of Vietnamese Cuisines; lemon grass, garlic, fish sauce, lemon juice etc. In one of the combo, you also get the Vina Prawn Imperial: one whole prawn wrapped inside a special spring roll! Their Roll Dips are also one of the best in Vancouver with a mix of pork, carrots, black cloud ears , glass noodles etc.
You may say this is not authentic enough in today's food scene, in my opinion; their interpretation of Vietnamese food is undoubtedly one of the main cornerstone of the development and acceptance of Vancouverite's taste buds towards ethnic cuisine. -

Edit: to clarify (now i've read more of their page). This was the Park Royal food court location. It seems the other one is better. i'll have to try it.
I've been spoilt with food court Vietnamese food. Vina Vietnamese reminded me why I shouldn't bother.
The price was OK, CAD 9.95 for a plate of lemongrass chicken with salad and an egg roll. But the chicken was cold, the noodles cut too short for chopsticks, salad wilted and they need to change the oil the egg roll was cooked in.
It's a barely edible adventure and makes me appreciate other Vietnamese food outlets more. -

Surprisingly authentic Chinese Vietnamese restaurant in the small alcove of Dundarave. The Pho is pretty good and very affordable. We've got to come back and try some of their dishes. There is lots of parking at the back of the restaurant, and along the street as well.

When you first walk in a semi-formal host greets you. He's very pleasant, his name is Alex. The decor is very interesting. It's starts out with an Asian theme, then lapses into something I'm not sure, then supper club. They have cloth napkins which is nice.
They have a pianist which first started out playing and then broke out into song. Desperado, yes desperado. (Reminds me of the episode Seinfeld).
The pianist is actually very good just not what I expected to see in a "Vietnamese" restaurant.
I'm struggling with this review. My boyfriend loves this place. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible but just reminds me of the Vina in Pacific Centre 1992, food court. Same food better service.
The food. Well the food like I said was 1992. It was tasty enough a tad salty but okay.
All I can say it was interesting dining experience. I can understand why they've managed to stay open over forty years. If you just happen to be in the area you may want to stop in for a meal. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go there. Vancouver has SO many Vietnamese restaurants that are cheaper and more authentic.
